My only hope is that when that happens the movie doesn't stink. Well it seems Dreamworks has hired Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Sleepers) to direct Ben Stiller and Jack Black in a comedy entitled "Envy". The two will play lifelong best buds, but when Black hits the big bucks by selling his invention, Stiller becomes insanely jealous. This dark comedy sounds like it could be funny, but let's hope it doesn't get bogged down by Levinson's directing. Anyone remember Jimmy Hollywood? Exactly. Filming should begin as soon as Stiller finishes shooting the Devito helmed pic, Duplex, co-starring Drew Barrymore. source: Variety.com Cruise's Latest Production This could be cool!! Variety reports that Cruise/Wagner productions (Tom Cruise's production company) will partner up with Paramount pictures to create a new feature film version of H.G. Wells classic "War of the Worlds". Both parties are thrilled, and why shouldn't they be. Tom is the biggest star in the world and has brought them nothing but success with the Mission: Impossible franchise, and he in turn makes tons of money. The studio is of course hoping he agrees to star but that remains to be seen. Now I honestly have a good feeling about this. These people were responsible for my favorite film of last year, Vanilla Sky, as well as having produced another Top 10 favorite of mine, The Others. This is no doubt going to be a huge under-taking with an inflated budget, so I expect Cruise to ultimately sign on as the lead and perhaps take a cut in his wage to even things out. Production is scheduled to begin in summer 2003, so expect further details soon. Meanwhile, any ideas for the poster? source: Variety.com "Goldmember": First Look Head over to the official Austin Powers site for your first glance at Mike Myers in make-up as "Goldmember"! Looks like he's gonna have fun with this one, hopefully bringing some fresh humour to the franchise along with this new character. I loved the first one, but found the second one had most of the same jokes. Can't wait to see if he pulls this one off!! source: AustinPowers.com "The Two Towers" banned?? If that headline triggers thoughts of 9-11, then you'll understand why it is being reported that over 1,200 people have signed a petition online to have the title for the Lord of the Rings sequel changed. Peter Jackson is being accused of "tastelessly" naming the sequel "The Two Towers", when in fact the book by the same name was written and titled almost 50 years ago by J.R.R. Tolkien. I for one believe that if anything, New Line Cinema (the studio producing the film) would have, to their advantage, changed the title by now were it not for the simple reason that it has nothing to do with that infamous date. I say they let the title be, and spend more time and effort toward causes that may actually help put an end to terrorism. source: Imdb.com "Sea" Poster makes me sick! You'd think that after botching what could have been an absolutely beautiful poster for "The Score", they would have learned a thing or two. Maybe not, but this new poster offers nothing fresh or intriguing to get audiences to line up. Shame on these people for letting this pass. Looks like a bad copy of the box cover for De Niro's A Bronx Tale. I'll never understand how these things get approved, especially when you consider all that effort that goes into making the movie, lighting it, editing it, putting sound, and this is what they produce to represent their film.
