A Sneak Peek Into Your Springtime Cinematic Soul ![]() As the wintertime rust wears off on the box office, moviegoers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring/summer cinematic fare to accompany the warmer temperatures. As discussed in this writer’s previous article “The Box Office Blues”, we’re routinely subjected to the drudgery of a few movies that merely sustain their existence as we await the highly heralded rousing flicks just itching to get out and vie for our entertainment dollar. The stagnation of waiting from January through the beginning of March while welcoming the spring/summer movie previews for 2007 is a painful process. However, it’s a slice of anticipation that always is needed as anxious film fans look forward to the escapist motion pictures that Hollywood releases with giddy intentions. Furthermore, the weeks ahead for the poor souls that require immediate mercy from the frigid cold and a break from “cabin fever” can rejoice. The realization that the sunshine and big-time movies—whether brainless, boisterous or beneficial—go hand in hand much like cool vanilla ice cream on top of an over-heated hot apple pie crusty surface is received resoundingly with tasty results. So the reassurance stands as this...don’t worry, be patient! Sure, we’ve had our share of would-be contenders that tried valiantly to hold the fort as we look forward to the big-budgeted goodies to please our moving picture-seeking pallets. The thunderous 300 gave us some eye-popping visual attitude as Spartans and Persians dukes it out in robust Greek mythical mayhem. We nervously smirked at trashy trailer chicks and God-fearing bluesmen that are both in the market for elusive redemption in the perversely absurd Southern B-movie gothic tale Black Snake Moan. A psychopathic killer roaming the Bay area of California’s petrified landscape in Zodiac has left a compelling aftertaste. The savvy yet silly-minded Korean creepfest The Host is a quirky horror film that’s more three-dimensional than any of the other showy disaster flicks thus far. Still, the understanding is clear that we desire more of what’s in store for us as the busy movie months take its eventual toll. Let’s take a curious gander as to what’s coming up in the film industry as we journey into the springtime celluloid ditties looking for us to use them as the main diversion. Don’t worry folks...we have the upcoming baseball season, long walks in the grassy parks, beaches, amusement rides, cookouts—they all will remind us how special the sneak peeks on the big screen are as we treasure this unique time of season! For the time being, let’s concentrate our efforts on disclosing the Spring Movie Previews for 2007. We will look into the Summer Movie Previews at a later date.
