From master director Francois Ozon who is responsible for the multi time internationally award-winning film Swimming Pool comes another unstable tale of deceit, and lust. Crafts another world filled with undeniable drama, pain, and remorse.

5 X 2 is a disturbing, haunting, and all too realistic evocation of sinful love that brings a marriage to a devastating end. The tale is told at it’s coldest, and tragic point at the sheer beginning of this intimate portrait of a adult relationship on the brink. The story is told in a reverse chronology, starting with the finalization of the couple’s divorce. This is certainly one of the most elegant, mature, and seductive films in recent years.

This filmic achievement ends with the wife in the hospital waiting for her husband to be by her side for their first child to be born. When he completely fails to arrive at the hospital to see his wife this begins a reversal of storyline. [Ozon] once again amazes you with his own vision of sexual attraction that gets intertwined in a world of confusion, and delusional thought. It’s a tale that is conjured up in five various levels of one adult marriage seen through the conclusion to the happy beginnings.

Francois who has also done films like: (Under The Sand, See the Sea, and Sitcom) delves into the devastation and loneliness after a painful divorce from a loved one. Then he travels through the history of the relationship itself anywhere from the most intimate moments to seclusion and isolation. One of the best films to date truly a masterful filmmaking by one of cinema’s up and coming greats.

Overall, 5 X 2 (Five Times Two) is a top ten winner with another powerful film by Francois this is one that can’t be ignored. Visually hypnotic cinema that is devastating yet adds a dark twist to its already brilliant screenplay.
