Frankie Feedback (Part 7) Presents: “Frank(ly) Speaking...” ![]() PREVIOUS PARTS: “Nothing Like the Flow of a Good Old Moviegoer’s Angst” “The Moviegoer Strikes Back!” “Penny for your Pithy Thoughts” "Meet Frank Ochieng, Cinema Cynic" “A Poisoned Pen, An Opinionated Mind” “They’re Out for Blood, Och!” Well gang, here we are once again…another Frankie Feedback column! And the seventh installment no doubt. Anyway, you ought to know the drill by now! Avid movie fans forward their cinematic comments to yours truly and I retort back with a snappy quip that hopefully answers the pending inquiry. So let’s not waste any time and see what the mailbag has in terms of the collected goodies pertaining to recent cinema. And now for Frankie Feedback (Part 7): Frank(ly) Speaking… Comments to Frank about his review on THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST: Nathan Riner writes: “Your article on the Passion of Christ was very accurate. I was impressed by your literary eloquence. My question is simple...WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE? Are you a believer? When Pilate asked his wife, "What is truth," did you have the same question or do you know the answer?” Frank’s response: “I’m glad that you found my critique rather interesting and I thank you for your complimentary feedback. However, I am not quite sure what my personal belief system has to do with how I reviewed the movie based on its artistic merits. If it’s worth your curiosity, I am indeed a believer and maintain the faith that Jesus Christ actually existed. But that is neither here or there…the important factor is what I thought about how beautifully this extremely graphic but poignant depiction Mel Gibson’s controversial and confrontational religious melodrama was to the raw senses.” Comments to Frank about his review on PETER PAN: Luke Turley writes: “Rachel Hurd-Wood is very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very pretty and beautiful and sexy and it would be amazing to go out with her because she is amazing and amazingly good looking and beautiful and pretty and sexy and she is extremely talented. I really really like her!!!!!!!! Frank’s response: “So Luke, you really adore Ms. Hurd-Wood, huh? Gee, you don’t say! Based on your comments I would have guessed that you barely tolerated her! Hey kid, I guess that there can be something said about overwhelming enthusiasm, right?” Comments made to Frank about his review on THE REAL CANCUN: Angela Helms writes: “I watched the movie, it was not that good, but there was something that caught my eye, one of the girls had a tattoo on her back, I was wondering if you had a picture of that tattoo, I am thinking about getting it. Please write back, Thanks” Frank’s response: “Thanks for writing and inquiring about the film THE REAL CANCUN. Much like you I watched the movie and felt that it didn’t live up to its potential at all. Hence, it did make my list for one of the worst films of 2003. In any event, to address your question about the girl and her tattoo—well, I have to admit that I wasn’t that observant in reference to this young lady's tattooed flesh. I know that as a film critic I am supposed to OBSERVE details but noticing the tattoo wasn’t one of my main priorities! (smile) Sorry to disappoint you but I have no idea what this tattoo represented. It must be some spectacle if you are considering getting one that this Cancun cutie had on her person. Maybe you might want to rent the DVD or video of THE REAL CANCUN. Why don’t you see if you can spot the tattoo for your own identity? Good luck! Comments made to Frank about his review on YOU GOT SERVED: David Krater writes: “I would have to disagree even though the movie is lacking something there is alot to this picture not only does it draw some movie goers in with its dance style but it also does have a real life look at how things are now a days for some youth. I thought the movie was a good picture over all with a little fix here and there but nothing major to call it a bad movie” Ashley Greene writes: “you got served is the best movie you could ever see.” Coneesha Richards writes: “you got served should get an A+ for a grade baby!!!” Frank’s response: “Personally, YOU GOT SERVED was an exhaustive dancing dud to me. Hey, whatever crumbles your cookies! If you cherished this flawed foot-stepping fable, all the power to you. Enjoy!” Comments made to Frank about this review on RADIO: Moviecriticman writes: “In a way I agree with you, but in a way i dont. The movie was very dull, and failed to provide an exciting subplot yet, Cuba's inspiring performance definetly lifened up the whole story. He came from a shy, quiet, "mind your own business guy" to participating and interacting with the entire school and being loved by them all. Unfortuanately this is about the depths that the plot went. The movie did not inspire me, and i think even die hard had better subplots than this pathetic excuse for a movie. I rate it a B- merely because of Cuba Goodings unbelievably spectacular performance that saved the movie.” Nancy McIntosh writes: “Just finished watching Radio this evening. How cynical, Frank! The movie does indeed touch the heartstrings and makes me want to be a better person. But what the heck is wrong with that? We do need more movies that are inspired from true stories and if they are stories such as Radio then I'm all for it. Life is taken too seriously and we analyze to death everything! Lighten up. I though Cuba was wonderful! I came from a town on the coast of Oregon that aside from the race issue could have been a story taken from the local history of my own high school. Our football coach would have done the same thing and there are small-minded people that would have tried to stop him. I'd like to think that 26 years later we could be applauding a coach with that kind of spirit and backbone. Believing that people like that may, can and do exist does my mind and heart good. Lighten up on the analysis, dude!” Frank’s response: “I’m happy that you listened to the sappy tunes of this particular RADIO. I simply wanted to turn down the volume to the mawkish melodrama to tell you the truth!” Comments made to Frank about his review on OUT OF TIME: Walter R. Dorfner writes: “How about a review not a second hand account of the movie.” Frank’s response: “Hey Walt, you must have some strange perception of what a review is because I swear that I penned a lengthy one that apparently you didn’t want to acknowledge. The only second hand account I see are your lifeless comments that hold about as much forethought as a slice of Swiss cheese.” Comments made to Frank about his review on THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE: Theresa Romero writes: “I agree with Bree. just because one person doesn't like the movie the next person might and have a good review for it”. Frank’s response: “Gee, Theresa certainly has her logic in tact, doesn’t she? Her quip states that some people may like a certain movie while others may not. Wow…what a thoughtful revelation, huh?” Comments made to Frank about the 76th Annual Academy Awards predictions: Brittany Mazon writes: “Too long and acried out, we like it right to the point, and reading 10 billion paragraphs is broing! I'm sleepy now! Get to the point!” Frank’s response: “Based on the way you delivered your flawed statement Brittany, I would say that you would be the ultimate candidate to read my “10 billion paragraphs”. After all, my lengthy write-up should hopefully influence you to properly spell what you’re writing and enhance what you’re stating. You shouldn’t be criticizing me about my long-winded column; you should be suing your educators instead! How’s this for getting to the point, Brittany?” Comments made to Frank about his review on SECRET WINDOW: Ellen Allison writes: “The first day this movie came out and at the first time is when I went to go see this movie. Even though I was incredably (sic) tired the movie kept me on my toes. I am a huge johnny depp fan and I am also a big fan of stephen king. I have read many of his books. I even read his book secret window, secret garden. I think when they changed the ending from the book was totally great. I was really exspecting (sic) mort to die and his wife and boyfriend to live on. I don’t know if I would have liked it as much as I did. This movie is friggin awesome. I recommend people to go see it like now,:)” Frank’s response: “Somehow I cannot see Allison’s ringing endorsement of “This movie is friggin awesome…I recommend people to go see it like now” the type of enthusiastic movie quote that you’ll see on SECRET WINDOW’s publicity poster any time soon. Hey, at least both Depp and King can add yet another admirer to their creative stable along the way!” Comments made to Frank about his review on HALF PAST DEAD: Brian Maximillian Daley writes: “I thought it was long, made no sense (it was very stupidly made), bad acting by Ja Rule, another movie where Steven Seagal is trying to connect with the youth today by starring in movies with rappers or in Ja Rules case (Pop singers). Movie was boring, I couldn't even sit through the whole thing, it was that BAD. Bad plot, Bad acting, Bad everything. Honestly there's not one good thing to say about this movie”. Frank’s response: “You know Brian buddy…I couldn’t have said it better myself!” Click here to comment on this article. Frank Ochieng © TheWorldJournal.com |
