February 11, 2003 - a date that will be remembered by avid film fans all over the world. Also, a date that will be cherished by the vast movie community, particularly the ones who were pinpointed to potentially receive that revered golden statuette. Well, the 75th Academy Awards are officially off and running as the announcement for the nominees have been released. One can imagine the hysteria that has been created in the attentive halls of Hollywood as moviemakers, actors and their agents alike must have been holding their breath wondering if the call-out for Oscar attention was destined to aim in their direction. And by all accounts, the few that were privileged to be part of the nominating process must be shaking in their benevolent boots.

To be honest, nobody should really be surprised by this year’s Oscar nominees since the choices that were made are somewhat obvious and in many respects were inevitable. In fact, TheWorldJournal.com readers can check out my movie article entitled “Race for the Gold: Frank Ochieng Looks at Potential 2003 Oscar Nods” and see for themselves how close I was to guessing who and what were most likely to receive an Oscar nomination in the main five categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Picture of the year. Still, as always, there is some heartbreak as folks come to realize some vital omissions in the nominations. In fact, the flip side is that there are some inclusions that are rather surprising yet well deserved.

I will definitely provide the movie enthusiasts at TheWorldJournal.com with by breakdown predictions regarding the 75th Academy Awards in a column entitled: “Frank Ochieng Out in the Forefront: The Prediction for Oscar Gold”. This column will be penned at a later date but right now, let’s take a look at the recent nominations for the 75th Academy Award ceremony that will be aired in a number of weeks.
