About three films a year make me frantically anticipate their release. Snatch, the new Guy Ritchie film starring a great cast of characters was one of them. Was I disappointed? No. Guy Ritchie proved with this picture that he was just a flash-in-the-pan filmmaker with "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", his previous feature-film debut. But with "Snatch", he indeed proves that he possesses the talent of a great filmmaker to craft well made, exuberant and astonishingly fun films.

Let us start at the beginning. Who is Guy Ritchie?. Ritchie is the audacious new young director who as many know is married to Madonna. Yet people should recognize this man not for his personal life, but for his professional life. Ritchie directed a great British film a couple of years back called " Lock, Stock…" This great piece about a couple of unorthodox gangsters was original and inventing. Resulting in Ritchie directing his second movie in the same tradition as his first.

Snatch revolves around a 38-karat diamond (a diamond), a boxing promoter (Jason Statham), a bare-knuckle boxing gypsy (Brad Pitt), a jewel thief (Benecio Del Toro), a jewellery shop entrepreneur (Dennis Farina), and a hit man (Vinnie Jones). Not to mention a ruthless gangster, bumbling amateur thieves, elderly corrupt men and some guy who seems to take forever cooking sausages (Watch the movie and you will understand). Confused yet? Do not worry, Ritchie does a mind-blowing job at introducing all these characters in a 30-second sequence that will utterly astonish and overwhelm a viewer simultaneously. As for the film, it can be difficult at times to follow, seeing it has such an enormous cast of important characters, yet, it is a marvel to watch.

The film moves at a very rapid pace, quick editing, and good use of sound and effects make the editing become a character in itself for the film. Without spoiling the film's experience, the movie sets itself upon a 38-karat diamond that virtually all the characters in the film want. Whether it is to possess for financial gain, or to settle a debt, this diamond is the backbone to all the film's events. Furthermore, Ritchie builds his story with characters that although are villainous and evil, we the audience cannot help but to root for and hope for a happy ending, all the while solidifying the fact that the real bad guy gets it.

In the same tradition as "Lock, Stock…" this film carries with it a brutish appeal. There are really only two female characters in the film that happen to be twins, plenty of violence and coarse language and a great soundtrack that captures the essence of each scene, resulting in what really is what PREMIERE magazine deems the 'coolest movie of the new year'. While being hip and edgy at the same time, it digs its way out of being a simple 'style over substance' piece. There is plenty of style, such as quick editing, perplexing camera angles, and a great music score by John Morgan. While basing it upon strong characters that are portrayed by a great cast, and a twist and turn script, that gives the film it's unique sense and look. Just like its predecessor, it will have you playing back scenes in your mind and pondering the possibilities of the actions taken by the characters in the film, long after the film is over. The great question will remain, did they, or didn't they? Then ask your friends if they saw the film. Did they or didn't they? If the latter response is the answer, make sure they see it.
