NEAR Shoemaker had a successful landing on Eros On February 12 the NEAR Shoemaker probe has made a successful landing asteroid Eros. According to the ground control center of flight, the contact of a probe with the surface of an asteroid took place, most likely, at 20 02 minutes 10 sec over Greenwich. Speed of a probe was 1,9 m/sec. It is still not clear how the landing was reflected on the equipment of a probe, there is till no information about that. But right after the contact with surface NEAR continued to send signals. And that's a positive sign. One week earlier Mir was reducing 500 meters daily.
