Neo is back. And in a big way
May 15, 2003
For those who saw the first installment of The Matrix Trilogy, now is the time to go out and see part two as The Matrix Reloaded recently opened worldwide. The Matrix Reloaded was filmed in Australia and its special effects and death-defying stunts outdate those seen in the first Matrix movie with the film's budget exceeding the first film's budget dramatically. Taking in over $100 million in just it's first week, the movie breaks box office records. The Matrix Reloaded stars Keanu Reeves, Carie Ann Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Australia's own Hugo Weaving and is out in cinemas everywhere. | Ninawa Butrus, TheWorldJournal.com

Pearl Harbor is the box office leader
Pearl Harbor, as many people thought, won the weekend's top box office's first position. $75,1 million was the amount Pearl Harbor collected in its first American memorial weekend. Though Shrek did pretty well. For an animated movie starring Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, $56 million for its first weekend is the result of a great work. Surprisingly, the consumer's rating for Shrek is much higher than for Pearl Harbor. Shrek stands 9.1 from 10 (10 is the max) against 7.6 for Pearl Harbor. | TheWorldJournal.com

Britney Spears is "Lucky"
The new Britney Spears video on her song "Lucky" is pretty interesting. Her song "Lucky" is about one little girl-superstar. But the director of the clip decided to make Britney play both roles: as a singer and as the heroin girl "Lucky". So, now the sense of this video is that Britney Spears sings about herself - one lucky little girl.
Sometimes, "Lucky" video seems to be just one big promotional clip. Well done. | TheWorldJournal.com

"Blair Witch" Scares Up Another U.K. Record
British exhibitors registered their biggest weekend take in history last weekend, earning $21 million over the three days, about $800,000 more than the previous record set last July when Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace premiered.
The box office was led by the debut of The Blair Witch Project, which earned $9.5 million, (Star Wars: TPM earned $11.2 million at its opener) and strong performances by Tarzan and American Pie. | Channel2000

"Friends" Cast Gets Hefty Per Episode Raise
Though their "all for one" strategy failed to net the individual cast members of NBC's "Friends" a cool million per episode, the six stars walked away from contract negotiations with a hefty raise nonetheless.
Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer and Courteney Cox Arquette will each receive $750,000 per episode for the next two years, plus a larger share in the show's syndication profits.
Despite speculation that the sizable price tag might lead the peacock network to pass on a new season of "Friends," its eventual capitulation to the cast's demands — the new contract represents a 500 percent pay increase for each actor — isn't that big a surprise.
Industry insiders point out that even a million per star per episode would have been a relative drop in the bucket compared with the money NBC regularly sees from the popular sitcom's ad revenue. | CNN
