Controversy Surrounding Dr. James Anderson’s Nullity
Theory By Dan Calloway, TheWorldJournal.com A BBC online newspaper recently reported that a British mathematician by the name of Dr. James Anderson from the University of Reading in Berkshire, England has developed a theory of mathematics he calls nullity that, if proven correct, may just revolutionize the world of mathematics as we know it today. Simply stated, Dr. Anderson claims that his theory of nullity allows for the division by 0, something that was undefined in mathematics until recently. Dr. Anderson goes on to say that his nullity theory has allowed him to solve a 1200-year old problem that neither Pythagoras nor mathematicians that have followed have been able to solve. Mathematicians all over the world are studying Dr. Anderson’s theory to see if it has merit, and whether it stands up to the conventional logic of modern-day mathematics. Dr. Anderson defines nullity as 0 divided by 0, whose value ranges from (– infinity through 0 to + infinity) on the number line. However, he further states that nullity lies outside the conventional number line and assumes the value range as stated above. Dr. Anderson’s solution is as follows:  After studying Dr. Anderson’s nullity theory, I have developed two proofs that appear to contradict his theory.
