The Little Black (Leather) Jacket: A Bonafide Fashion Staple?
By Michelle Presbury, TheWorldJournal.com

While many continue to marvel at the longevity of the little black dress, some self-proclaimed style-buffs are ignoring the world's continued fascination with the cropped leather jacket. Of course it's not just the color black that everyone's taken with. It's the style. The way the jacket accentuates (not hides) the curves. The way it tailors your waist. The way it gives the wearer instant style. Whether paired with a beautiful turtleneck (or cowl-neck) or a simple t-shirt, the runway and the streets all agree: This jacket is here to stay.

Or is it?

On Style.com, the various spring 2004 ready-to-wear lines boast many versatile leather jackets. Everyone from Oscar De La Renta to Donna Karan and Boudicca has adapted their own versions of the cropped leather jacket. Designer Roland Mouret chose to modify the item even further by designing a short-sleeved black leather jacket apparently designed for spring's warmer days.

Many fashion-conscious consumers are unable to afford the designer names, so stores such as Victoria's Secret and Gap provide very suitable (and cheaper) alternatives to their pricey counterparts. The Wilson's Leather chain is also a great choice to explore this great fashion revelation.

There are many variations on the popular item. From motorcycle-style to bomber-style, this jacket can take on many forms. There are also various color choices for those a little more adventurous than those who simply want the classic black. The color Camel has emerged as an overwhelming favorite among designers and consumers.

Will the cropped leather jacket be the next denim jacket (occasionally out of style)? Or will it become the year-round staple that the crisp and classic white button-down shirt has become?

Only time will tell.
