Amazing Evanovich By Ninawa Butrus, TheWorldJournal.com
It's not every day that you pick up a really good book to read that you can not put down. Furthermore, it is not every day that you find a really good series of books to read, filled with amazing plots, wacky characters and all round mischievous fun. Janet Evanovich is the international best selling author which has given readers an excellent series of books - the hilarious Stephanie Plum novels, of which there are currently eight in the series. Janet Evanovich now lives in New Hampshire in the US, but like her character, Stephanie Plum, Janet grew up in New Jersey. Winning countless awards and truckloads of fans worldwide, Janet Evanovich has gone where no other crime fiction author has gone before. The Stephanie Plum novels have a twist - they're not your every day predictable crime fictions. In fact, what they are could be described as comedy meets romance meets adventure meets crime! Stephanie Plum is a Bond Enforcement Agent, or in her terms - a bounty hunter, who works for her cousin Vinnie who is rumoured to have sexual experiences with a duck! The novels revolve around Stephanie's Failure To Appear's, whom she has to bring back to reschedule their court dates, and also her barely-there love life with her on-again, off-again handsome Italian cop boyfriend Joe Morelli. Along her adventures, Stephanie encounters some very mean people, gets kidnapped, gets shot at, gets stalked by an insane professional boxer, gets called "loser" by a vertically challenged man and finds mixed feelings for her mentor and professional bounty hunter who doesn't work for less than $10,000, ex-Special Forces "Wizard", Ranger - who has no known adress and always dresses in black, with an endles supply of flashy black sportscars. The success of the series is unbelievable, with a major motion picture company buying film rights for the first novel, "One For The Money". Janet Evanovich's website (evanovich.com) has a special message board where fans can vote for which actors they think should play the characters in the first novel. I'm an absolute die-hard Janet Evanovich fan - I just cannot put the books down! I asked Janet some questions about her successful series and here's what she had to say: Q: What inspired you to create such a hilarious and unpredictable character such as Stephanie Plum? Where did you get the ideas for the characters and storylines? A: Before the Plum series I wrote romance novels. Stephanie has a lot of bits and pieces in her from those previous heroines. She also has a lot me of me and my daughter, Alex, in her. Stephanie frequently reacts to situations the way I would. The bounty hunter idea came while I was watching the movie Midnight Run. It seemed like a great profession that Stephanie and I could learn together. Q: Has the success of the Stephanie Plum series changed you in any way? A: I don't have to worry about where I'm going to find the money to fix the roof anymore. Other than that life is pretty much the same. Q: What can readers expect from the 9th Stephanie Plum book? A: I'm not giving anything away! However... a character from one of the earlier Plum novels may be making a re-appearance. I'd like to congratulate Janet Evanovich on her wonderful series - keep up the amazing work! Readers and fans can visit Janet Evanovich's official website at evanovich.com. The books in the Stephanie Plum series are: One For The Money, Two For The Dough, Three To Get Deadly, Four To Score, High Five, Hot Six, Seven Up, Hard Eight. © December 9, 2002 |
