"I Like to Move It, Move It..." By Artashes Toumanov, TheWorldJournal.com ![]() American scientists have found a solution for the global warming problem. They have offered simply to move the earth away from the sun. This idea is quite a fine explanation for the US president George Bush' declaration that Americans will solve the problem by themselves. American astronomers together with NASA employees have offered a fast solution for a global warning problem. Experts from the California Research Center claim that our planet should be moved in more "cool place" in solar system, so that the warming will not put people in danger. According to this plan, for this purpose it is necessary to conduct some explosions, which will change the orbit of the earth in space. One of the authors of this project reported that approaching asteroids should transmit the part of their gravitation energy to the earth, which will cause the orbital speed to change. Then the earth will begin to move away from the sun and take a more expedient position in solar system. To realize this project it is enough to direct in a strictly certain time a rocket to one of the asteroids and blow up the object. NASA and California Research Center proclaim, that scientists do not need big efforts to change the orbit of the earth. Participants also consider the fact that their method will allow to prolong life of this planet by 6 billion years. Besides, technology of operation is simple and might be used against "destruction comets" approaching our planet. However, NASA plan has two major issues - possible plan's outcomes. First of all, the slightest inaccuracy in calculations may result in direct collision with a 100-kilometer asteroid (object of exactly such diameter is necessary to blow up to move the earth). In this case, there will be a global catastrophe (Armageddon), which will terminate life on the planet. Even bacteria will die. The second problem, which was not considered in the calculations by NASA experts, is based on earth - moon relations. Earth, when moving away from the sun, will also move away from the moon. It also will call global cataclysms which consequences are impossible to estimate. Besides, it is possible, that the moon will collide with the earth - that may result in destruction of both planets. It is understandable that by making these suggestions, astronauts and NASA experts are expecting large investments for their research from the US government. While the search for the best solution continues, European Union is ready to discuss this problem on their meeting this summer. We will keep you with up-to-date information about "global warming". © June 14, 2001 |
