How much time does a technician need to assemble a personal computer, having all necessary tools? The answer is 6 minutes and 1 second. Meet Nelson Abreu - America's fastest geek.

ExtremeTech.com organized a little championship "America's Fastest Geek" on the PC Expo 2001 exhibition in New York. Computer experts had to collect the whole computer right in front of the crowd. The champion is the person, who collects the computer in the shortest period of time. The champion also gets a new computer with high characteristics.

Four men became semifinal leaders: Damien Bishop with 6:01 minutes result; Steven Wong with 6:27; Nelson Abreu - 7:21; Chi Chan - 7:46 minutes.

However at the end of this competition, Nelson Abreu managed to collect the whole system for 4 minutes and 26 seconds. This timing includes also turning the computer on and loading ExtremeTech.com web site to prove that the PC was working. But the judge of the competition has found that not all the details are installed properly, so the achieved result was not counted. It made Nelson to continue the competition and fix the problem, which resulted in final time of 6 minutes and 26 seconds.

In spite of this delay, Nelson's result was the best and he was recognized as the winner.

The second place won Damien Bishop, who finished assembling a personal computer just one minute later. Nelson Abreu, 24, from New Jersey (USA), the non-staff network manager, has received a gold crown. He said his next aim is to get a job.
