And the Oscar Goes To... By Ninawa Butrus, TheWorldJournal.com
The 73rd Annual Academy Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, were a spectacular event that rocked the world. Hosted by Steve Martin, the Oscars went on for more than its scheduled 3 hours with laughter all the way. The Oscars was also fashion event, as Hollywood's finest exports went out on the red carpet in their designer outfits pleasing the media and the crowd of fans that had camped out for days just to catch a glimpse of thier idols. For Russell Crowe and Julia Roberts, this was their night of nights. New Zealand born, Australian raised actor Russell Crowe amazed all Aussies as he took home the Best Actor Award for his blockbuster smash hit Gladiator. In his acceptance speech, Crowe said, " God bless America, God save the Queen, God defend New Zealand and thank Christ for Australia." Julia Roberts won her fist Oscar, besides the fact that she's Hollywood's highest paid actress and she's made a variety of movies. She took home Best Actress for her stunning performance in Erin Brockovich. Overwhelmed during her acceptance, Roberts frogot to thank the real Erin Brockovich, but she made up for it later backstage saying, "During my out-of-body experience, I didn't acknowledge her, shamefully...with great humility I acknowlege her profusely."
