| New Ideological War By Candice Pascoal, TheWorldJournal.com Last week we had the sad opportunity to present an event that became part of the world history. An event that if we had the opportunity to choose we would prefer not to be part of it, and read it at the books or saw it at the movie theatre as an un-real, fictitious, out of reality event. Although, it faced all of us throughout the tools of the media, crying for help, answers and vengeance. First, it came the help. Heroes, the firemen, the policemen and the paramedical team offered their existence among those they cherished to save the life of so many incognitos innocents, chosen to become one of the tools of the terrorism. Then, it came the answers. The government of the USA was liable to find the responsible and divulgate to the spectators of that massacre a prudent and diplomatic reply to explain a reckless and non-diplomatic act. They were accounted to give the right answers to the international community, with no mistake, no terror, and no weakness. Together with the answers, it came the vengeance, the promise of retaliation to all those who hurt the peace and honor of the Occident, represented by the USA, and promoted the terror killing multinational civics. But whom could we punish? After that 11th September, we understood that there is a new war starting that it is not anymore between nations or blocks, but between 'the Bad and the Good" and more peculiar than this, with an undefined new enemy, that has no geographic area, that carries on just culture and religious characteristics to promote the terror among peaceful countries and not peaceful ones. It is abnormal that they don't fight for winning a negotiation, as before nor they sign down their acts anymore, as before. They just let us know that they have no ethic, no government organization and no name but that they are willing to kill in the name of a distorted God and that they believe that this spiritual explanation justify their atrocities. This new aspect of the enemy - that he exists, has a name, terrorism, but doesn't have a geographic area - gives to the anger the impossibility of fighting throughout the traditional methods of war. And that's the new challenge of the USA and their allied countries today: that they are due to create this new kind of combat, combating. © September 29, 2001 |
