You may or may not have heard of the next generation Windows operating system. Microsoft Windows ME is coming soon and it brings with it the hopes of many home users who have simply been scared to death of leaving Windows 98 or 98SE to install Windows 2000 on their home PCs. Windows 2000 (otherwise cloaked as Windows NT 5) is not a very user-friendly operating system for the home user. Its built-in security features and multi-processing operation are simply too much for the average home user to understand. Besides, unless you want to take the motherboard out of your present PC and replace it with one which will support two microprocessors, then switching to Windows 2000 won't give the typical home user the full power and potential of the operating system that they are scared to death of anyway.

Thank goodness for Microsoft Windows ME. This operating system offers some new features not be available in earlier versions of Windows.

Windows Millennium Edition makes it easy to take advantage of the latest in video whether you have cutting-edge digital equipment or use an older, analog camera. Either way, Windows Movie Maker (included in Windows Me), gives you some pointers about new cameras and other equipment and software you may want to consider to take your video experience to a new level. Even if you don't own a camcorder, you can still play with digital video in Windows Movie Maker no one said you have to use footage you shot. Go crazy, cull the Web for digital video, then use Windows Movie Maker to edit and play with all you find. Here's your opportunity to create a piece of art by incorporating still images, music, and narration.

Your at home in the digital world with Windows ME. With features designed specifically for home users, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) makes using your computer easier and more fun. Windows Me gives you the power to network your household's computers, communicate more efficiently over the Internet, and work with rich multimedia content such as photos, videos, and music. Tailored wizards and a redesigned Help Center make setup and troubleshooting faster and easier than ever before.

With all the hype from Microsoft over this newly developed operating system for the home, just when will we be able to expect it to be available for purchase? Well, Microsoft Corp. announced on June 19, 2000 that the development of the consumer operating system was complete and that the product had been released to manufacturing. Microsoft stated that Windows Me is their latest version of the Microsoft operating system designed specifically for the home user. It improves the home computing experience by delivering enhancements in the areas of PC health, digital media, home networking and the online experience. Consumers will be able to purchase retail versions of Windows Me on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000.

The estimated retail price for Windows Me is the same as for Windows 98: $209 (U.S.) for the full-package product and $109 (U.S.) for a version upgrade. Parties interested in learning the estimated retail price in local currency for other countries should contact their local Microsoft subsidiary.

If you are the typical home PC user who wants to enhance his or her multimedia experience on the web and network computers in the home more easily than with Windows NT or 2000, then Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) is your next operating system.
