The 10 Web Sites to Watch in 2001 By Dan Calloway, TheWorldJournal.com
We have a treat for you this week. I would like to introduce you to 10 web sites that I feel are worthy of watching in the coming year. These are my selections as the top 10 web sites in various industry markets. I have provided a brief description of each site along with the hyperlink so you can check them out for yourself. Favorite place-mark them and keep an eye out for them in the next century. Agex.com Comprehensive, vendor-neutral site stresses marketplace and content features. The site hosts exchanges that target a specific crop, such as almonds, dried fruit, juice, or rice. BuyerZone.com Targets small and midsize businesses, offering comprehensive research to help them buy anything from office supplies to 401k plans. Features, QuoteZone, a quoting service for high-end purchases; MyZone, a purchasing management application that centralizes the online procurement process for companies; and, superCart, which allows companies to place orders with several suppliers at once. Chempoint.com Emphasizes fast, personalized service over transaction volume as a fine and specialty chemical distribution exchange. The company worked with several software vendors to build their site. egreetings.com Stresses personalized service and offers a comprehensive range of cards for purchase. The site also extends itself as an ASP to other e-businesses; for example it is the exclusive service provider for MSN's online card services. FastWeb Targets companies and organizations seeking one-to-one personalized marketing opportunities with the 16-year-old to 24-year-old market, matching multiple variables in the scholarship search process for each student. Its current user base is around 6 million students. Lowermybills.com Claims to be the first nationwide comparison service that allows consumers to compare and lower recurring bills on the Internet, including grocery, insurance, long-distance, wireless, gas and electric, auto loans, and credit card services. PlanetOutdoors.com Redesigned site to add personalization, logical product categorization, intuitive navigation, and better integration with its co-branded sites so that product searches would pull data from a single database. Sells outdoor gear and clothes online. PriceGrabber.com Offers online financing to small businesses through its network of 40 financial institutions. The site features a reverse blind loan auction model in which the consumer stays anonymous to all bidding banks except the one the consumer chooses to do business with. Travelocity Offers comprehensive global travel resources and services online, including air, car and hotel booking as well as itinerary builders, maps, photos, and deal finders. In August, Travelocity announced it was striking a deal with Nextel Communications to offer travel information and services via the Internet-based mobile phone market Zapdata.com Delivers data to sales and marketing professionals across industries that need to create targeted prospects list, enhance their customer file, and perform comprehensive market analysis. © November 3, 2000 |
